Atlanta School Board Will Not Renew Contract for Superintendent

ATLANTA, GA (WGST) - After a board meeting on Monday, Atlanta Public Schools will not renew Superintendent Meria Carstarphen's contract when it expires in June 2020.

Carstarphen has been with the school since 2014 and has overseen many changes to the school system since then. Last year, the board voted 6-3 for her contract to be extended until 2020.

According to the board, her efforts have fixed "many of the issues that plagued our school systems a decade ago."
