ATHENS, GA (WGST) - A sprinter from the University of Georgia was involved in a freak accident when he got impaled by a javelin during practice.
Elija Godwin was impaled by a javelin when he was running backward sprints during practice. Godwin backed into the javelin, which was sticking up from the ground, and suffered a puncture and a collapsed lung.
He was transported to the hospital where the javelin was surgically removed. UGA says that Godwin is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
